We have eagles here. Each year the pond seems to attract a few as their base of operations, and it’s not unusual to see one of the white-headed raptors lazily circling high in the sky, or perched in stillness in one of the many trees lining the pond. Occasionally you’ll see one flying down the waterway with a fresh catch in its claws. My son got a pretty good photo of just that last summer (below).
Last December, as the ice was just beginning to form on the pond, we watched three of these very large birds taking turns sitting on the ice and then flying around the area, swooping over the shoreline and our house. The show lasted for over two hours. Below is a short video:
